CBD and Pet Anxiety

Just like humans, dogs and cats experience stress. The 4th of July is a favorite day of the year for many Americans. However, it can be one of scariest days for your furry friends.  Nearly half of all pets experience significant fear and anxiety during fireworks celebrations. Even thunderstorms or simply being left alone can cause considerable stress in pets.

The sudden loud noises from fireworks and thunder can trigger your pets fight or flight response. This leads to a release of adrenaline which results in increased heart rate and blood pressure.  Animals exhibit this stress in multiple ways including panting, excessive barking, pacing, hiding, whining, and lack of appetite.  These symptoms can continue for up to an hour after the stressor is gone as their adrenaline levels return to normal. One of the worst reactions is running away. More pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year.

CBD can reduce stress and anxiety in both humans and animals. There have been many studies on the effectiveness of CBD in humans and research is beginning on the benefits to pets. Whatever the cause of your pet’s anxiety, whether fireworks, thunderstorms, separation, or unfamiliar guests in your home CBD is a safe, natural solution. In a Cornell University study, “dogs were given CBD chews prior to a stressful event, and 83% showed a decrease in stress or anxiety-related behaviors.” For more information on Cornell’s findings and additional CBD benefits for pets click here: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/riney-canine-health-center/canine-health-information/cbd-what-you-need-know-about-its-uses-and-efficacy#:~:text=Anecdotally%2C%20many%20dog%20owners%20have,stress%20or%20anxiety%2Drelated%20behaviors.
